Drive punchA drive punch is a hollow metal tube that cuts holes in leather for grommets, rivets, eyelets, etc. Place the hole of the punch where you want the hole in the leather. Hit the other end with a hammer. (You may have to hit it more than once to cut through the leather.) Make sure that you do this on a work surface: the punch is sharp enough to cut into a hardwood floor -- or just about anything else. You can use this tool in hard-to-reach places where a rotary punch won't fit. Drive punches can be round, oblong (oval), or "strap end" (for the ends of a belt or strap). |
