Leather awl sewing tool
This tool is for continous leather sewing projects. With a sharp
needle at one end and a spool of waxed thread at the other, an experienced user can sew entire garments with just this tool. A supply of waxed thread lives on a spool and is threaded through the eye of the needle. You poke the thread through the leather and pull the loose end of the thread through the hole. You keep poking through the leather, threading the loose end of the thread through the loop made by the needle and thread. (You mimick a sewing machine.)
The handle of the tool often holds spare needles and a locking 'key' to tighten the needle. Waxed thread is sold at most leather shops.
We've had mixed results with these. Daifuku Mochi has never gotten one of these to work, while Spiky Mochi can merrily stab away without a hitch. As with all the information kept here, remember that your mileage may vary.
