Screwdriver
Screwdrivers, as the name might suggest, are used to put in or take out screws. They are also often used for other things (like prying open paint cans).
Screwdrivers can be roughly catagorized by the kind of "tip" that they have. Tips that look like a cross are Phillips head screwdrivers. Tips that look like six-point stars are torx head screwdrivers. Tips that are flat are, well, flat-head screwdrivers. If space is an issue, you may want to look into a multi-head screwdriver, where the tip of the screwdriver is interchangable. (The alternate bits are usually stored inside the main handle.)
As you go along, you may find that you will need some itty-bitty screwdrivers. Hardware stores often carry precision screwdriver sets; some craft store sell small screwdrivers as part of a jeweler's toolkit.
