[An assortment of Sculpey]

Polymer Clay

Traditional clay (the kind that you make pottery out of) is basically made of chunks of earth. Polymer clay is made of plastic: it's made up of PVC particles suspended in a plasticizer, which makes the plastic "rubbery" until it is cooked. It lends itself to a variety of techniques from all sorts of crafts, like scuplting, textiles, pottery, etc. Common brands include Sculpey, Premo, and Fimo. It comes in a wide variety of colors and "special" varieties (ones that look like stone, glow-in-the-dark, etc.)

Please vent well when baking polymer clay. At high heat, it releases toxic fumes.
