Ring Ring

• From: Steam Detectives (TV + manga)
• Materials: Cotton (main dress, apron, hat), lining, much interfacing, satin ribbon (neck tie), extruded styrene ("eggs"), air-clay ("eggs"), garter belt, stockings.
• Design notes: The apron was the most problematic piece. From the front, the apron seems to rise part-way up the side (underneath the arm). From the back, there is no evidence that the apron front wraps around the sides. As a compromise, the sides were tapered down: visible from the front but not so visible from the back.
• Construction notes: The golden "eggs" are created by sanding down styrene "Easter eggs" into a more oval shape and covering them with a thin layer of air-dry clay. Buttons are set into the back of the eggs and then sewn onto the apron.
• Additional notes: In the manga, Ring Ring has a cross on her hat. In the anime, she doesn't. Why? It would have been a red-colored cross -- and the Red Cross wouldn't allow it.
